Safety Policy and Programs

SAF/IEE Safety Directorate

The Department of the Air Force is committed to ensuring safe and healthy workplaces that directly contribute to increased lethality and readiness of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. We conduct training and real world operations in a manner that enhances mission effectiveness while minimizing safety risks to Airmen, Guardians, and the public both on and off the installation. As part of this effort, the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Environment, Safety, and Infrastructure (SAF/IEE) provides strategic policy, guidance, and oversight that enables improved safety, health, and risk management processes designed to prevent injuries and accidental loss of human and materiel resources.

The SAF/IEE Safety Directorate strives to promote safety by encouraging a cultural mindset where every leader, Airman, Guardian, and civilian is trained and motivated to perform activities safely. It supplies Air Force personnel with the safety policy, guidance, and oversight they need to meet their mission related requirements. The Directorate acts as an integrator for safety policy between all the military services and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration while advocating for improved policy and defending Air Force equities with close coordination with the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Occupational Safety and Health.

The Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy (SAF/IE) is the Department of the Air Force’s Designated Agency Safety and Health Officer (DASHO). The SAF/IE delegates program responsibilities, except the DASHO duties, to SAF/IEE.
