About Air Force Real Property Agency

OUR MISSION

To acquire, dispose, and manage all Air Force-controlled real property worldwide.

WHO WE ARE

The Air Force Real Property Agency (AFRPA) is the Air Force agency responsible for acquiring and disposing of Air Force-controlled real property worldwide. AFRPA also manages property transfer and environmental remediation activities at former Air Force bases closed or realigned under the Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1988 and the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990 (BRAC).

AFRPA is currently based in San Antonio, Texas.

OUR HISTORY

AFRPA traces its history back to November 15, 1991, when the Air Force Base Disposal Agency (AFBDA) was formed. The agency was originally created as the single focus for base conversion matters, including the execution of environmental programs and disposal of real and personal property, for Air Force bases closed or realigned under BRAC legislation. In 1993, the agency was rechristened the Air Force Base Conversion Agency (AFBCA) to more clearly identify itself as a facilitator to assist communities in their conversion of the closing and realigning of former Air Force bases.

On October 16, 2002, AFBCA consolidated with the Air Force Real Estate Agency forming the AFRPA. In addition to managing the conversion of closed and realigned Air Force Bases, the Agency assumed real property acquisition, management and disposal responsibilities for active Air Force installations worldwide.

ORGANIZATION

AFRPA is an Air Force field operating agency reporting directly to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Logistics (SAF/IEI).
