AFRPA realty course builds real property expertise
Students came from as far away as Alaska and England - and from installations throughout the U.S. -- to attend the inaugural Advanced Realty Course in San Antonio, June 13 to 17.
The ARC, sponsored by the Air Force Real Property Agency's Real Estate Transactions Division, is a week-long course designed to provide career-broadening training in all aspects of real property transactions to experienced Air Force installation realty specialists. Thirty-eight realty specialists from various installations met at the Hotel Contessa in downtown San Antonio to gain advanced knowledge about acquisitions, management, disposals, in-grants and out-grants.
The week was capped off by five group presentations and a final exam, after which AFRPA Director Robert Moore presented coins to the top four students - Dale Bohnenkemper (Indiana ANG), Wendy Schrage (Schriever AFB), Brandi Bohanon (Peterson AFB) and Michael Coy (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson).
"You are receiving the kind of training we expect everyone to ultimately have," Mr. Moore told the students. "You will be the experts."
ARC attendees were nominated by major commands (MAJCOMs) and selected by RET to fill the classroom slots. Twelve MAJCOMs were represented. AFRPA funds each participant's attendance to the course, an indicator of the agency's commitment to training the next generation of real property leaders.
RET Division Chief Brian Brown said the ARC is also a "perfect example" of how real property best practices are leveraged to support clientgoals..
"We have collaborated with our A7C, MAJCOM and installation partners since September 2010 to develop this training," Mr. Brown said. "ARC training ensures installation commanders have access to highly qualified and knowledgeable real property officers to meet mission needs and achieve A7C strategic goals."
As Mr. Moore told the students, "Our number one goal in AFRPA is people, and you're the ones who get the job done. Use your business sense, mission sense and common sense to make the right decisions for today and for the foreseeable future."
