Cannon Air Force Base

Air Combat Command (ACC) is currently responsible for Cannon AFB, NM. However, on 20 June 2006, the Secretary of the Air Force announced the decision by the Secretary of Defense to realign Cannon AFB; the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) will take over operational command of Cannon AFB and the nearby Melrose Range and associated special use airspace currently controlled by 27FW.
Realign Cannon through the following actions:
 
1. Transfer ownership of Cannon AFB to Air Force Special Operations Command. The 27th Fighter Wing becomes a tenant organization. 

2. Distribute the aircraft assigned to Cannon AFB to meet the Primary Aircraft Authorization requirements established by the Base Closure and Realignment recommendations of the Secretary of Defense, as amended by the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission. ACC is responsible for this move. 

3. Disestablish the 27th Fighter Wing. ACC is responsible for this action.

Holloman Air Force Base

Air Combat Command (ACC) is responsible for Holloman AFB, NM. Realign Holloman AFB as follows per the Medical Joint Cross Service Group recommendation:

Disestablish the high-onset gravitational force centrifuge at Holloman AFB and relocate the physiological training unit (49 ADOS/SGGT) to Wright-Patterson AFB. ACC is responsible for this move in coordination with the Air Force Surgeon General plans and programs.

Kirtland Air Force Base

Air Force Material Command (AFMC) is responsible for Kirtland AFB, NM. Realign Kirtland AFB through the following actions:
 
1. Establish 18 F-16 aircraft at the 150th Fighter Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base. ANG is responsible for this action in coordination with AFMC and Air Combat Command (ACC). 

2. Relocate the units from Jenkins Armed Forces Reserve Center located in Albuquerque, NM, to a new Armed Forces Reserve Center on Kirtland AFB. The Army is responsible for this move in cooperation with AFMC. 

3. Relocate the correctional function of Kirtland AFB and consolidate with existing correctional function at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA, to create a consolidated, single, Level II Southwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility. AFMC is responsible for effecting this movement in coordination with the Department of the Navy. 

4. Relocate the Space Vehicles Directorate from Air Force Research Laboratory, Hanscom, MA, to Kirtland AFB. AFMC is responsible for this move.
