The Air Force has selected enXco, a subsidiary of EDF-Energies Nouvelles, to develop a solar energy project at Travis AFB, Calif.

Ms. Kathleen Ferguson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Installations, approved enXco's selection as the highest-ranked offeror for the project on Aug. 9. With the selection, the Air Force and enXco can begin negotiations to lease 195 acres at Travis to develop up to 27 megawatts of solar power capacity.

The 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis AFB is working with the Air Force Real Property Agency to lease three parcels of non-excess property for commercial development under the Enhanced Use Lease Program. An EUL project gives the Air Force the ability to lease property in exchange for cash or in-kind consideration from developers. Details of the lease will be worked out in negotiations.

"This project will be another great example of the power of EUL to develop renewable energy projects that benefit the Air Force, our supporting communities, and the nation," Ms. Ferguson said. "The Travis project is one of several renewable energy EULs in development that will help the Air Force meet its energy goals, and provide power for local community use."

The Air Force Real Property Agency acquires, manages and disposes of Air Force-controlled real property worldwide. AFRPA manages the Air Force EUL program, which helps installations leverage real property assets to achieve value for the Air Force through partnership with private industry.
