Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced Tuesday that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Sullivan, commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center here, for the rank of lieutenant general and to become the Deputy Chief of Staff, Installations, Logistics, and Mission Support, at Headquarters United States Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

General Sullivan will require U.S. Senate confirmation for the promotion. Once confirmed, he will succeed retiring Lt. Gen. Donald J. General Wetekam. No date has been set for the promotion or new reporting date to the Pentagon.
After learning of his nomination, General Sullivan said, "It is an honor for me to receive this nomination and, when confirmed, I look forward to continuing to serve my country and the Air Force in this new capacity. I appreciate the confidence the president, secretary of defense, secretary of the Air Force and Air Force chief of staff have expressed in my abilities as an officer."

General Sullivan has been commander of the Ogden ALC since July 2003. The ALC is located on Hill Air Force Base, the largest single site employer in Utah with more than 23,000 people and local economic impact amounting to more than $3-billion annually. The mission of the Center includes depot maintenance, purchasing and supply chain management, weapons system management and readiness.

"At the Ogden Air Logistics Center, we have focused our energies on doing our part to sustain air, space and cyberspace capabilities," he said. "We are involved in the Global War on Terror through our sustainment activities. The most important thing we do is provide the young war fighters who operate the systems we manage and repair the best equipment in the world."

If confirmed by the Senate, General Sullivan will be leaving Utah and said he will be taking many good memories with him from his current assignment and his team.

"I have a great sense of pride in what the men and women of Ogden Air Logistics Center have been able to accomplish for the Air Force and our Nation every day," the general said. "They are truly leaders within the logistics arena and I am confident they will continue to be America's best at what they do."

As deputy chief of staff for installations, logistics and mission support, General Sullivan will be responsible to the Air Force chief of staff for leadership, management and integration of Air Force installation support and all the logistics elements associated with aircraft and missile supply and maintenance activities, as well as setting policy and preparing budget estimates that reflect enhancements to productivity, combat readiness and quality of life for Air Force people.

General Sullivan was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps following graduation from the University of Connecticut in 1974. He has held various assignments through out the major commands of the Air Force and at Headquarters, U.S. Air Force. Prior to his assignment at Hill AFB, General Sullivan was the director of logistics readiness under the office he is about to lead.

No successor has yet been named as Ogden ALC commander.
