Agreement marks environmental milestone for Whiteman
(Left to right) John Askew, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7, Doyle Childers, Director of Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and Robert Barrett, Air Combat Command Chief of the Asset Management Division of the Directorate of Installations and Mission Support, sign a Long-Term Stewardship Agreement for the Missouri Minuteman II Missile Sites, in Kansas City June 19. The agreement signifies the Air Force has satisfactorily completed required environmental steward actions in conjunction with the dismantling of the 165 missile silo and launch control facility sites active in the state throughout much of the Cold War. The Air Force will continue to monitor and inspect the sites to ensure compliance with restrictions placed upon landowners concerning use of the land. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Matt Summers)
