Air Force Energy Program

The Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy's (SAF/IE) Energy Program is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of the Air Force’s energy efforts, partnerships, and program and policy development across the Air Force enterprise. The program supports the overall Air Force Energy Vision of Enhancing Mission Assurance through Energy Assurance, which reflects the Air Force’s emphasis on energy resilience.

The Energy Program is made up of three supporting subprogram areas:

The Air Force Energy Program’s work in improving resilience, optimizing demand, and assuring supply is vital since every mission, Airman, and military capability depends on energy.  A future in which the energy program accomplishes its goals to holistically optimize cost and provide resilient, cleaner sources of energy by balancing the objectives of its energy projects and placing an increased focus on meeting multiple objectives within single projects means:

  • Increased energy resiliency, reliability and readiness of the Air Force

  • A more agile Air Force to maximize each watt of energy or gallon of fuel

  • Recognized Air Force leadership in energy assurance

  • A cleaner, cost-competitive energy future for Air Force energy projects

Air Force Energy Flight Plan 2017 - 2036The 2017-2036 Air Force Energy Flight Plan identifies a long-term vision for the Air Force to Enhance Mission Assurance through Energy Assurance. The plan codifies the importance of energy to the Air Force mission, and targets a holistic approach to energy projects providing resilient, cost-effective, cleaner energy solutions and improving combat capabilities .
